Extreme Makeover: Bloggy Edition

November 14, 2011

in Bloggers I like, Design/Furnishings/In some way artsy, Why It's Hard Being Me

Given my complete lack of even the most rudimentary computer skilz, I knew I’d need help transferring the blog over to WordPress, and that’s all I thought I could afford.  As far as a redesign and update I knew I needed, I thought it would have to wait.  But then I found the exceptionally patient, kind and funny Kelly and Jen of Tribal Blogs.

One back-and-forth round of email later, I signed up for an Extreme Blog Makeover.

I’m now on WordPress, I have a new avatar (and yes, of course I still think of seven foot tall blue-skinned 3D people when I hear that word,) I have social media buttons, plugins (which apparently aren’t sex toys; who knew?) and my SEO is supposed to be better now.

No, I didn’t even know it was sick.

They did so much work for me for the measly $300 cost of the makeover that I question their sanity. But wait; there’s more. If you want to hire them, they will give you a 20% discount. I’m good at the maths — that’s $240 — and look at what’s included.

Frankly, I’m sure the idiotic questions I asked and the fact that they didn’t laugh at me (within earshot) were worth what I spent. Yet they also did design work (many iterations), set up extra pages, got me on facebook, solved the mystery of the mysterious floating head, talked me through a technical procedure on the phone (like an air-traffic controller helping a chimp land a 747), transferred over all my old posts, and did myriad other acronym-laden tech-y things I don’t even know about.  On top of that, I had a blast.

So if anyone out there is looking for a new design, a switchover to WordPress, or any of the other services they provide, I give them my highest recommendation.

PS: Ty Pennington scares me.

You are too much! Thank you so much for the glowing review and I am so glad that head stopped floating. I was thisclose to consulting the ouija board.

Thanks again Kablooey, you were a pleasure to work with!

Are you kidding? My pleasure. I hope somebody takes the bait. If more people read my blog, we’d be better off, but that’s in my hands now.

I love it.

Plus, that price…very TEMPTING indeed.

And what’s most impressive: you didn’t lose your GFC.

I am having trouble resubscribing, though.

Won’t take for me…I think it thinks I’m spam.

OK, here’s and example of why I hired Jen and Kelly in the first place:
Alexandra, I had to google GFC. Because my first guess was Georgia Fried Chicken. (For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s short for Google Friend Connect. I know, right? I never would have guessed.) And I checked and you are still listed, Empress, so I think we’re ok.

Leave a comment; I'll be your best friend.
