To Go or Not to Go…

in BlogHer Blogfest2010 in 3-D, Why It's Hard Being Me

… that is the question. While Shakespeare never wrote a play about whether or not to go to BlogHer this year (what with the penis and the being dead and all,) it’s still a question vexing me.

Even after being pretty overwhelmed at last year’s event and enduring a couple of flashbacks to my junior high cafeteria, I still bought a ticket to this year’s conference.

We were going to do a business/pleasure combo trip as a family, but then the business (justifying the cost) part of the equation was subtracted. I figured I’d likely sell the ticket since we were going on a vacation two weeks afterwards and I knew I wouldn’t want to spend the money and would be frazzled.

But then my epic, renowned, procrastinatory skills kicked in, and I didn’t notice that BlogHer had posted a sell-by date. Which I missed.

So now I’m trying to decide what to do.

On the plus side:
  1. I’ve never been to San Diego and love traveling by myself.
  2. It will be fantastic to meet people I’ve only known online.
  3. I’ll leave knowing I did something for myself and my blog.

On the minus side:
  1. There’s the money/guilt/I’m barely working this summer thing. And if I go, there’s the get a roommate or just stay at someplace cheap conundrum.
  2. I need to get things done here, not add another trip to prepare for.
  3. I don’t like giant crowds of people, networking, nor feeling inadequate by comparison to others who go for it and put themselves out there. (In fact, just typing those italicized phrases has made my heart pound a little bit.)

On the get over yourself and make a decision/there are real people with real problems in the world side:
  1. Well, there’s that.

I doubt that I will ever go to BlogHer…because of the expense and I'm much better at socializing in small groups of people.

Can't wait to see what you decide!

YOU MUST GO. Because I had such an excellent time with you last year, and we actually learned stuff, and it will be OK. Worthwhile.

You have to go, Kablooey.

YOU HAVE TO.

I know I will never go again, b/c of the money.

So, please, go?

Even though I'm no longer a Blogger, I'm glad you've decided to go. San Diego is awesome; you will not believe the views of Coronado Bay if you end up on a high floor in a hotel. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency (but work paid for it) – it was right on the water near the Naval Yards and there is a fantastic little area where it is like an outside mall which has a lot of crafty shops (right up my alley). Also, at night near the ships, the ladies from Tijuana come to sell their wares (not themselves, stuff like jewelry) :o)
